100% normal his little bladder hasn't matured enough yet. Many many many children do not outgrow bedwetting until they near puberty!! He will outgrow it as his body matures.

My 4 1/2 yr old son still wears a nappy at night.

I'm not forcing him to be dry, I know he'll do it in his own time

He's normal. The best way to end this is time. His body will eventually reach the developmental point where he can hold his pee all night... or wake to use the bathroom. For some kids this happens by 2... and for others it's at 12 or later. A 4 year old in pull ups at night is completely normal. So normal, in fact, that many peds won't even consider any sort of treatment until the child is at least 8. SOME peds take a more proactive approach by 5, but I'm thinking those are probably in the minority.
