I'm just registered for school as a part time student after being out of school for 30 years. have a daughter that just turned 17. I've been a single mother for 17 years. I lost my job about 4 years ago and in turn lost my house and everything else. I haven't been able to find full time employment due to my age. I'm 51. I'm working part time at a grocery store. this is what I have after working in a law firm for 30 years.I got in school and pass the entrance exam which this is been the scariest thing I've ever done.I receive the Pell Grant but it's prorated because I can only take two classes because I have to work part time. I have no other income and I cannot meet all the financial expenses and obligations. I don't even have enough money for the books then I need to start school. I'm so lost at this point I really don't know what to do.

I'm going for paralegal studies. if I were to even get a part time job as a paralegal that would certainly pay a lot more than a part time job at a grocery store. I don't understand how anyone thinks that they can survive off a part time job and supporting a child at the same time.I've I'll support of my daughter for the last 17 years almost but once I lost my job due to the economy getting another job because of my age has been impossible.I honestly don't know what to do.I posted this just to get another perspective. not thinking that it would resolve my situation just maybe help with other ideas.

Try looking for second-hand books. Try to get on additional government assistance. Try looking into community support programs that may help adults trying to go back to school.

I'm wondering, though, what you hope to accomplish by going back to school? Bragging rights? Depending on your course of study, there still may not be jobs available for you. Sorry to be a downer, but this is all stuff you need to think about before you get yourself deeper in debt.

I'm not sure how you expect us to be able to help you.
Maybe see if you can get a 2nd part time job to help make ends meet.
