no you cant i was on birth control for a few years when me and my ex was together and when they first gave it to me they told me that u have to wait a few weeks after getting on it before u can have sex and if u had sex you would have to use a condom but u should be safe i would get tested just to be sure though

Your doctor should have explained to you how the birth control works, and what time frame you would need to use a back-up method before the shot protects you from pregnancy. Generally, you should either abstain from sex or use a back-up method for the first 7 days after starting birth control. So if you had sex 3 weeks after getting the shot, you should be fine. You may or may not have periods while on the shot (or while breastfeeding), so that would not be an indicator for pregnancy. If you have concerns, talk to your doctor.
