@ Amy,
Have you lived in Mumbai? It is sooo different over there.I know what you are saying but we do not know her situation.Again I do not know that much about Mumbai but some countries consider a disability "shameful" or a "curse"..not necessarily something they go around telling people about.
Obviously if their system was like ours the Dr would have sent him to speech therapy by now.How can you advocate for help if there is no resources and/or no money?

I understand the system may not be the same and in no way am I judging but at 2 they should be stringing words together and starting sentences. My daughter is delayed speaking, but at some point you have to become your child's advocate and fight for help.

Hi,
@Hetal-
The US has programs for kids that have delays that are free,I could not find anything like this in Mumbai.
Here is some things I found for kids w/special needs and parents in Mumbai. The Forum for autism can maybe point you in the right direction:
Forum for Autism
Saurabh house,
Ground floor,
Flat no. 1,
Next to Garden Hotel,
Garden lane, Colaba Causeway,
Colaba, Mumbai
Contact No. - 022- 32949595
Email – forumforautism@hotmail.com

Also here is a list of schools, maybe you can call them and ask what you should do and if there is a speech therapist that your son can see:

@Amy-I do not think it works the same in Mumbai as it does in the US or UK,so to say he should have been to speech 3 years ago is somewhat uncalled for(my opinion),I am not sure exactly how there health care/school system works, but I do not think they have early intervention there.
I have a friend from Taniza and she said they offer no services for the families of kids w/DD,and if you do want services you have to pay cash for them, they do not integrate kids w/DD in reg schools in Taniza.

I agree -- you need to get him to a speech therapist as soon as you can. Ask your doctor for a referral, if you need to.

If he's 5 years old you need to call the pediatrician and get him evaluated. Early intervention (speech therapy) should of been started 3 years ago if I'm reading his age correctly. I know early intervention where I live stops at the age of 3 and then you have to go through the school system, when is he supposed to start school? If he's not talking at all he'll probably need to be in special Ed or a remedial class.
