My son was born on 10-10-2008. So he lags 10 days to go to Kindergarten in public school. He is already registered in Montessori for the kindergarten program for the year 2013-2014.

My question is, does he need to repeat kindergarten in the public school next year or can he go to the first grade directly...

please help me ...

thanks

My youngest hasn't started K yet actually, but the older ones did all the Kindergarten work... They didn't actually LEARN anything (maybe a little, but not much), but they enjoyed it anyway. They learned to read and do math MORE too. ;)

My youngest can't read as much as the older ones could, but he's starting... and starts K this year.

Reading and math are the only things I'm 'good' at teaching.... lol

well your kids are very lucky to have a mom like you dove... I didn't know how to get them to form words with letters... my kids were smart.... VERY smart, they knew english and several phrases in spanish, they knew their numbers, colors and shapes in spanish, they knew how to count, and could recognize letters and numbers. they could write their names and recognize their names... but here in kindergarten they learned to read and write and do simple math..... but that's all they did... I don't know what else they would do if they already knew that... it would just be review for them... what did your kids do in kindergarten?

You would have to ask the schools in your district. I know in my district (at least when I had a late born kid... not sure if it's changed) if a kid was born past the required age date... they were put in Junior Kindergarten. IF after that year a kid was ready to progress into first grade they did so, but if they still needed more time... either academically, emotionally, or both... they were then placed into a regular kindergarten class for that next year.

if he is reading he doesn't need to repeat it. It would be detrimental to him to repeat kindergarten if he already knows how to read and do simple math (subtracting and adding)
