Hi, my sons 11 weeks old and has had sleep routine for the past month now. He goes to bed around 6pm and wakes around 5am. He usually has a 2 morning sleeps and an afternoon sleep. Occasionally in the afternoon he will sleep right up, and past his bedtime, should i be waking him around 5 so i can bath, feed and quiet play with him then bed like i normally do to keep him in his routine or should i just let him sleep til whenever he wakes and just not follow his routine that night

i would try to change his sleeping time. because as he gets older he will want to stay up longer during the night when he should be sleeping. and then you as a mom will get tired fast. which mean you start to take it out on him in the wrong way and that is never good. it will take time maybe a week maybe two at the most. but a week is good. when mine were that age i drove my son around tring to get him to go to sleep dont do that!!!
anyway what i had to do was keep him awake durning the day time. i mean let him sleep around noon to like 2 or 3 in the afternoon and then dont let him go back to sleep until his bedtime. that will make him sleep longer during the night. you could also make sure when you feed him give him something that will stick to his ribs i like to say. something that will stay with him all night. like gerbers ceral for babies. i am still using the ceral for baby oatmeal. and he is about to turn two. it works great. i hope this helps you out.

Hi Jessica. I am a mom of triplets and had my kids on a serious schedule. A great book that will give you some guidelines on times and schedules is Babywise by Ezzo. Is he eating every 3 or 4 hours. My guidelines were eat, play sleep to fit into the timeframe of the eating schedule....so yes, you need to wake him to do all the things you do before it is time for him to go down again. With the Babywise schedule you could probably have him going down a little later and then sleeping just a little later also. My kids are still early risers 6:30 used to think bad but with school now it is great. up, dressed and ready to go with no need to drag out of bed. Good Luck! He is a cutie!

Hi jessica, iam margie iam an older mum i had my last baby at 42 and have 3 grandchildren to thats me with my 2 daughters on my profile pic on my 50th birthday. anyway i hope my advice helps, At 11 weeks i dont believe babys have a seep pattern most still think their still in your womb it does no harm to let them sleep through at that age i could wash an change mine and they would stay asleep while iwas doing it .Your baby will wake when he's hungry he might even sleep right though 1 of his feeds but dont worry he'll wake for the next a baby is thriving when they are sleeping.you can still put him to bed at the same time he'll get used to it eventally as he's getting older you'll notice him waing more oftenbut at about 3months old i would drop his through the nite feed thats if he has one the way to do that is when he wakes through the nite for his feed give him water instead it will ntake about a week or so for him to realise he's not getting his milk and after that he will start to settle and accept he has to go sleep GOOD LUCKwith your lovely baby
If you have him in such a good routine I would be waking him up, you are so lucky to have your baby sleep from 6pm to 5am. Can I have one of those babys please, my girls are 3 and 5 the earliest I can get them to bed is 8pm. I almost had them going to bed at 7:30, but then day light savings happened. So lucky you, good job and well done.

I agree evry child is different.Kids do definetely need a regular schedule. You just have to find a happy medium because life isn't doesn't always run on a schedule and kids need to be able to adjust. My advice would be to listen to your "INNER MOM".There are days when the extra sleep may be needed and days when you can wake him up.Sometimes if possible it has to be on your schedule not just the baby's.You sound like a great MOM,you are even considering his and your playtime. You will make the right choice-trust yourself!

hi i tend to agree with what the other ladiees said it is hard to get kids into a routine but always good to have so i would try to stick to it as much as possible i found with my kids that if i wanted them to have a nap they would always go into there cot or if we werent home wrap them that way the learnt when nap time was so many if you find him sleeping to long get him out of bed and let him relax in rocker or something till he wakes up i have a ten week old and she has two naps and then sleeps through the night they less they sleep during the day the longer at night

Hi yur baby looks a real cutie.... I am mum of 3 girls and I always tried to work my babys sleep patterns around a normal routine. It doesnt harm your baby by waking them if any thing in my opinion it helped encorage there normal routine. do what you think if ok and try not to worry about it, you sound like a very good and concerned mum....
Some baby's can handle being out of routine others cant if you already have one at this age i would keep it that way and if you wake him it gives you some time with your baby as well they grow up to fast so spend as much time when they are awake as you can
