I need to know a little bit more but here is my experience with my own high school son who is now in his second year of college and still lives with me, single mom for 20 years. I fought this battle for 12 years and my son decided not to take the drugs the last 2 years. It depends on how ADD they are. ADHD with hyper is something I do not know about but I put a guitar in my sons hands at around 15 and he focused on that. They need something that makes them feel in control of thier own. There are no schools anywhere that were right for my son...just you reading a lot books to find out why he is the way he is. But here is what I know that I think you will feel is the same...we excuse them for the ADD when they can actually can do everything normal. The only thing you need to do different is to not give him excuses. I am sure you know they end up using this...THAT IS WHAT I DID WRONG! I AM KICKING HIM OUT AT 20 YEARS OLD! HE HAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF THIS...MAKE THEM DO WHAT YOUR OTHER KIDS DO IMMMEDIATLEY AND THEY WILL STRAIGTEN UP! I promise...stop making excuses it has only hurt my son but I am saving him now. Just treat him like everyone else. We all made it through the 70's and 80's without medicine and we can do it now. They start taking advantage of the situation. Give him written down rules and consequences and you will not need to pay for a better school. Parenting is hard but you will reap the benefits later...make him follow all you rules!!!
