High blood pressure, and c section

I am currently 38wks and 1 day with my baby boy, also my 1st child. At 12 weeks pregnant my blood pressure was through the roof, so my OB had me see a cardiologist, who put me on blood pressure meds for the rest of my pregnancy, they both monitored me closely, and my blood pressure has been fine, until last week at my 37 weeks check, where it was high again even though Im on meds for it. My OB, said that if it hasn't gone down by today, my 38 week check, that she wants me to have a c section as she doesn't want to risk me going into natural labor, and my blood pressure rising when its already high, and her having to perform an emergency c section. She said that because of my blood pressure being high, if I go into natural labor, I am putting the baby and myself at risk. I really really want natural birth, with no pain meds, nothing. Im a huge believer that women were built to bare children, and thousands do it everyday. Plus, the thought of having a c section terrifies me. My grandfather had a simple operation, and died of a DVT 12 hours later, and this is all I can think about when I think of having a c section, and it terrifies me. My husband wants me to have a c section, because the OB has scared him by saying this. Has anyone else been in this position?
