Rosemary,My understanding is that it's a bad idea to get your hair died while you're pregnant because of your hormones and the changing chemistry of your body. Your hair could react badly and turn a strange color, fall out, or you could get chemical burn. I would say you would be fine doing highlights, but maybe you should just try a small section first to be sure that you're not going to have any weird reactions. I know plenty of people who have dyed their hair while pregnant and had no trouble. I have seen a couple of people with strange hair colors though :)

I agree that all over dye is much more manageable, Michelle, but Rosemary is talking about getting highlights, which isn't really a DIY style.

My neighbor is a hairdresser i asked her when i was pregnant if harms the baby and she said no.I only go to the salon 2 times a year.It takes me 4hours to get my hair washed highlighted trimmed and blow dried...I have very long hair and every hairdresser is amazed about how much hair i have.I have very thick long hair thats why it takes so long and it costs too much.I started to trim my hair myself and colour them at home..cheaper easier and doesnt take a long time.I only get my hair highlighted at the salon.

Amanda: it doesn't have to be done at the salon. I have always coloured my hair at home. Do it when the kids are asleep and bingo, ready to go for another 6-8 weeks.

I'm sure it's safe, but is advise against it. I have a 5 week old, and I had no idea just how time consuming it would be. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE being a mommy, but the days really do fly by. I haven't had time to get my side bangs trimmed, and the shop is literally 3 mins from my house. I would def not be able to set aside an hour or more for highlights to be touched up. So that's why I advise against doing anything that will require substantial time to keep up with. Also, babies are expensive. It might be hard to keep affording regular salon treatments, for awhile.
