I make my daughter's formula now that my body stopped making milk since she was 6 weeks old. She is so healthy and doing great. I use kefir, hemp milk, goat milk...... I can provide the recipe if anyone is interested. My pediatrician is impressed with it. I want to start her on a thicker since she is up to 9 oz bottles. I increased her hemp but she seems to be getting hungrily more often now at 3 months and a week. What do you suggest??? I have considered oatmeal and or rice..... they however increase risk of obesity later and diabetes.

Any uneducated and unresearched individual will read the words, "Hemp," and immediately and inaccurately compare it to marijuanna. Get your facts before judging please. There is so much disrespect in this post. I knew a woman with a daughter with cerebral palsy and hemp milk was the only thing the girl would tolerate-she was failure to thrive prior. In regards to homemade formula-your research is also lacking here. Educate yourself. Please. Do you have any idea what goes into your, Good start, Enfamil, and Similac? There are reasons why some women go out of they're way to make a homemade infant formula. There are doctors who have made recipes. Do your research and do not let your ignorance get the best of you.

I was a smoker for years and years. I agree paranoia can be an effect of sativa. Many different strands. It is not addictive but does go along well with poor desicion making.

Gena, he is not addicted to marijuana. He is psychologically dependent. Marijuana is not addictive. You can stop cold turkey and be just fine.

And keep in mind. It may be illegal now, but the push for legalization is spreading, because most people that have done the research that you don't wish to do have realized that the initial reasons for prohibiting it (especially in the US) had to do with lies and propaganda from the influential parties in the country. See, it's a naturally occurring plant with many benefits, including medical.

I'm not against the use at all. I, myself, use hemp products in many varieties, including fabric. I just don't recommend TCH consumption for an infant.

1 cup Goat Milk
1 cup Hemp Milk (2T hemp seed with 8oz water) ground finely and strain
1/2 T black strap molasses
1/2 T acidophilus
1/2 T hemp oil
1/2 t vitamin C
1/2 t Cal Mag Zinc
20 drops trace minerals
1 dropper infant vitamins
1/4 t probiotic powder- add last probiotic can't touch metal

Good for 48 hrs

This is to use if you prefer or for when babies are intolerant of store bought formula

As you see criticism comes quicker than good advice but my daughter is very healthy and her appetite increases as she grows just like a store bought formula baby. Hemp does not get her high as some suggest. If you try this out expect the naive to jump at you and the knowledgeable to be impressed. I increased the hemp to prepare her for food as the doctor suggested it. I prefer hemp however other things are available but the do not digest as easily.

I got on here today to get my recipe since I lost the hard copy. I can't believe the responses about hemp and kefir I got. I was asking about rice or oatmeal to mix with formula. I have stayed off her due to the overwhelming rudeness needing advice with my first baby. Brings tears to my eyes. What was I supposed to do not feed her what her doctors recommended. I live like a hippie but my life is legal and I have a medical career despite the hatefulness about my brain. I can't believe this still makes me mad reading all this looking for my recipe. How sad.... first time mom needs advice... BABYCENTER actually helped me.This site was a terrible experience.

Wikipedia does not really explain kefir well. I read it. It is better described on Oprah.com.... seriously. It is a probiotic made from grains that live off the lactose in milk. It is very similar to yogurt. I did not include it in the recipe because I grow it to have and because it was added afterwards and not originally part of the recipe. I really expected all the responses about hemp to be geared towards kefir..... My family and I have had some good laughs over the judgements here. Thc in hemp is suggested but nobody caught alcohol in kefir. The level is depending on how I grow my gains. I change out the goat milk often enough no alcohol builds up.

i should have betted with someone for money, you would have made me richer:-) Thought from the beginning that you either are or were a pot smoker. Atleast you admit the paroina part of it. I still stay by my opinion that it is addictiv.I just spoke to a neighbor yesterday evening that ironicely enough was adicted to weed when he was young,he now works at a center for drug addicts including some young and older people that have their problems getting off weed, his clients are there to get off drugs..and that to me means they have an adiction. No body will ever change my view on that subject that can get addictiv. It may take longer and more usage of it then other drugs but that doesnt change the matter of the fact of addiction. But in anycase, this post is not for debating about pot! So this was my last word on this subject!

Be careful about the goat's milk, as it is high in sodium, chloride and potassium. This is the same reason we are advised not to feed cows milk to children under 12 months.....have you discussed that with your pediatrician?

Hemp is not pot... and I agree, it would be unfortunate for anyone to smoke anything (or become intoxicated) while pregnant, breastfeeding, or around a baby. You obviously don't know very much about hemp or marijuana besides opinions formed around people who smoke the latter around their children. I'm sorry you are misinformed and have such poor examples. But the amount of THC found in hemp is miniscule and would have no effects. It has the perfect ratio of omega 3 and 6, as well as being a good source of fiber and protein. Please keep an open mind and look into it for yourself, you'll be very surprised.

I'd be concerned with the fact that this formula doesn't contain a lot of fats, and very little to no iron. However, it could be the lack of fats that is contributing to the hunger too.

It is too early to be feeding cereal. This is generally not recommended until about 6 months due to digestion issues, risk of obesity later in life, and various other factors.

Guys, hemp * growing & production* is illegal in the US, not buying/using/ingesting it. Hemp is in the same family as Marijuana, but definitely not the same plant! Do your research, it's only illegal because it is much better for making cloth than cotton, paper than trees, vehicles and buildings than steel. Our founding fathers grew it. Look up Harry J Anslinger, who led the crusade against hemp/marijuana, and his incredibly ignorant and offensive racist/sexist arguments against it. THC naturally occurs in our bodies, has an exhausting number of health benefits, cannot be overdosed, and promotes relaxation when used moderately. Please research a topic on all sides before having such strong opinions as I see here.

I would like to know the recipe! Indeed, hemp may be stimulating her appetite, but the amount of THC (a chemical that naturally occurs in our bodies and has an exhausting list of benefits) is miniscule and you are definitely not "drugging" her. Anyone who says otherwise has not done their research :) Anyone who disagrees, I don't care to argue with you, thank you :)

Some questions I would ask are: Is she getting enough fats, protein & fiber? Could the formula not be thick (filling) enough? How often are her feedings? I believe Earth's Best has an oatmeal and quinoa cereal... I recently started adding cereal to my daughters' bottles, starting at fractions of teaspoons in case there were allergies and to avoid over-feeding. That's where the risks for obesity/diabetes come from, is the overfeeding & encouraging them to finish the bottle when they're full.

Hemp is suggested by multiple PHD'S. I have been on more reputable sites regaurding hemp formula and it is understood. I read tons of things about people adding things to premade formula as soon as 6-8 weeks.. I was never asking for advice on my use of hemp... I was asking about rice and oatmeal.

And ones with blinders on don't help. If you don't bother to research and realize that there is no way to remove ALL THC content from hemp, that's your own problem. Not mine.

Oh, and judging is saying "Jana, you're horribly wrong and stupid for doing what you're doing." The only person judging anyone on this thread is you, yourself. The rest of us are posting opinions. (and in my case, opinions backed by over 25 years of research, tyvm).

I stand by my comments. THC is and always will be present in hemp. The AMOUNT of THC present will be determined by the growth and processing method. And, with the introduction of THC into your daughter's diet, you are, in essence drugging her. You don't like that statement of fact? Sorry, sweetie. I'm not here to sugar up the truth.

You wanted to know why your kid is hungrier than usual. Its because part of the formula that you are making her contains an ingredient that promotes appetite. I never said it wasn't a good source of fiber, and it can also be an excellent protein source as well.

Oh, and where in this thread did ANYONE mention any formula by name? No where. That's where.

Hemp is sterile and is a source of fiber. I buy it at sprouts and whole foods right here in the usa. It is used for plenty of things and has no THC. I thought this would be a good site but if gerber type or premade is good formula..... people should do research before judging. My baby couldn't tolerate regular formula so after a few specialist we created this. I find it hilarious the drugging my baby comment. Close minded people make the world what it is.

Honey, I hate to tell you, but hemp is your problem, its what's causing your kiddo to have munchies.

Don't call me stupid, my dear.

THC is the chemical contained in cannabis. Hemp is NOT THC free. It never CAN be THC free. Concentrations of THC in hemp used in the food industry can be LESS than in marijuana used for consumption as a mind altering substance, but it's ALWAYS present in the plant. If you don't know that, you aren't fully educating yourself in the use of the plant, potentially causing problems for your child.

It's nice that you want to be "progressive". Now try eliminating the hemp from your recipe and see how little one's appetite is.
