Hello I am homeschooling an 8 year old and 11 year od both with pdd I am from the states and have had years working with the PLAY Project by Dr. Solomon for children on the autism spectrum. This is an unusual situation, both children can speak Spanish, German and English but cannot read or write any language. They were born in the US and father insists on speaking German while he is home (only on weekends) and mom is from Chile and she and the nanny speak only Spanish to the children...they have traveled to a new country every 2-3 years. Mom speaks English and can write some ...the youngest has issues with his emotions and will walk out of a room or crumple his work....he was removed from 2 schools here in the Dominican Republic that were international schools. His brother is a loner, won't make eye contact, focuses on one thing and must be right...does not like to be around people he does not know, also removed from school for bullying. I have worked with the youngest for 5 months and he will stay in the room while I am working with him, he will not crumple his paper but says they are too hard for him. he can now write his abcs and numbers, read first grade books but has issues with self control and attention span. His brother is behind in his work but he is now making eye contact with me and talks freely with me, even told me he did not like to go outside because people look at him.....I am using an Unschooling type program along with themes which seem to open door with both kids. any ideas or suggestions let me know
