My girls are in the 5th grade and are not doing well in math, they are beginning tutoring at school but I really want to help them at home. Any ideas on how I can help them learn the math better? The schools are beginning to change the way they teach math so it makes it harder to teach them since I do not want to confuse them. Thank you for any and all help.

Im dealing with this myself...ok go to walmart or anywhere that sells books in what they arw having trouble with and let them work on those books at home ...u can also download free apps on your phone in what they having trouble with.so they can practice they are fun games and wont be boring....have them work on it alone explain the directions work on two problems with them and put them away from tv anf other distractions...my boy had problems in math and I did what im telling u to do.I had him do it everyday even when they understood it and now he is doing great...spelling also..we go over spelling words everyday and he writes each word five times...they night before spelling test I pretend like im the teacher and give him paper and pencil and tell him the word and hes getting them all correct...and doing great..even flash cards work also...he got his first report card after working with him and got all a's good luck let me know how it goes...email me if u like....valeriedawson.king@yahoo.com good luck!
