Yes, mix some honey and lemon for a sore throat, but it does not prevent colds. It does help with seasonal allergies though. BUT, you must get honey that is collected in your area for it to help with allergies.
Best thing to prevent colds, is to teach proper hygiene. Covering mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing by using the inside of elbow, washing hands after being in public and before eating, and in general keeping immune system strong by eating healthy.

It's better if you can find raw honey that is made in your area, as it may help build up immunity for some local allergens. Take two teaspoons daily which can be eaten straight from a spoon, mixed into their cereal, put on bread or toast, dissolved in warm water, etc. Do not give to infants under 1 year old.
