Hope from a grown up dyslexic

28 years ago the school counselor, principal, and teacher said my daughter, Alta, was "uneducable." She is dyslexic and dysgraphic. She is now a music professor and website designer. She finds certain things easier to learn BECAUSE she is dyslexic. And I found that the way dyslexics are taught in the US is way, way behind the research. It breaks my heart to see parents panic and spend huge amounts of money on therapy that does little good and often makes the student hate books! There is a better way. And it doesn't take huge amounts of time or money; you just need to know how. See Dyslexia Tool Kit for Tutors and Parents; What to do when phonics isn't enough. It's co-authored by my daughter and me and it costs less than one session with a reading therapist like me.
