I don't know your work schedule but can you set up a dinner time where you all have to be each day? Sitting and having dinner can actually do great strides to helping maintain a family relationship. Of course you have to listen to them and keep negative topics away from the dinner conversation.
Possibly set up a family night once a week where you do something with just the family, no going to friends or activities. Try to do things like play boardgames or go bowling, go sledding, bake things or w/e. Things that don't involve watching tv or where there's no real hanging out. Maybe a 'movie night' once a month where you make popcorn and treats beforehand or something but not every week.
It's tough, there's so much to compete with.
The main thing is to try and spend time with them getting to know them. Also be firm in your rules, don't let them run you over. Try to connect with them but not to the point where you're their 'friend'. Listen to them if they come to you with a problem or concern, even if you don't agree with them. Don't let them be rude to you or anything but if you listen, even if you disagree, they're going to know you're open to seeing their side of things.
I hope some of this helps!
