How can I explain to my 15 YO why she can't party with college girls?

My daughter got invited to a college-age party by a friend. In Canada, 19 is the drinking age. There will very likely be drinking if most of the party-goers are in college. I know she "feels" old and is curious about the things that young adults do. However, as a parent I'm not okay with a 15 year old going to these parties alone. Especially in urban areas, it is unsafe and there are so many possibilities of what could happen. She's a great kid, knows what's right and wrong. Her academic performance is excellent and she mostly stays away from sex and drugs. It's not that I don't trust her (because she is pretty honest), it's just inappropriate for her to be exposed to adult activities that might take place at the social gathering.

I really don't see why you even feel like you have to explain anything. She's 15, the answer is no; end of discussion. If you have not already started a dialog about safety, drinking, dating and socializing with an appropriate peer group; then now is the time to start.

It sounds like you have a good relationship with your daughter. Has she been known in the past to be respectful of the boundaries you put in place? I would explain to her the reasons why you wouldn't want her to go and maybe talk to her about alternative plans she could make (allowing her to pick something that is safer but fun for her).
I completely agree with you that college-age parties (even for college-aged kids!) can be filled with temptations and peer pressures.
Stay strong on your convictions. Your daughter will respect you for it (even if it is later in life)... loving your daughter is keeping her safe and helping her to make wise decisions. You are doing great!!

You tell her that until she is 18 you are responsible for her and if she goes to a party and drinks then she is breaking the law. You could also be charged for not being her responsible guardian.
You don't have to explain anything to her, she is a minor and she has to live by your rules.
