How old is your son? If he's a baby or toddler then let him sleep. Other wise I would talk to your pediatrician and see if maybe there is a vitamin deficiancy. They go through growth spurts where it will seem like they do nothing but eat and sleep then that passes and it seems they never sleep. But I say if your really concerned trust your mommy instincts and talk to your Dr. Hope this helps a little =)

Maybe 10:30pm is too late for him to go to bed at night and he could not be getting enough sleep. Depending on his age, children require 11-14 hours of sleep a night, not including naps.

he sounds fine, i agree with some of the others cutting out the 6pm nap might help him go down a bit earlier and give you a bit of peace in the evening :)

I have 3 boys. They go through stages where they need more sleep. Then they will stop taking naps. My 3 year old stopped taking naps a year ago and now he needs a bit of a nap now and then. Kids sleep when they need it. If your child has been to the doctor and he is up on all his vacinations and healthy he probably just needs the sleep.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that. My 13 month old sleeps from 630 at night till 830ish in the morning then naps from about 10ish till noon then again from 2p till 3 or 4. Shes getting between 16 and 18 hours of sleep a day and she is growing a lot right now too. Why on earth would you want him to sleep less?!?!?! This only lasts so long then they never want to sleep. My four year old sleeps from 7-730 till 7 on school days and 9ish on the weekends and still naps more often than not for a few hours a day.

Our little boy is 15.5mths and sleeps;
645pm - 5:30/6am (approx)
8am - 930am
midday - 230/3pm.
So he's getting around 15-16hrs a day. If he gets less than this he gets to be a real grumpy bum!!

My little boy is 1 and sleeps from 7 til 7 and then naps by 9 am and then again at 2, today he went back to sleep at 12.30, he sounds pretty normal. A lot of my friends kids go to bed late but mine would just be cranky and rubbing his eyes by 7. Every kid is different.

I agree with Teresa, I personally would consider cutting out the 6pm nap and getting him to bed earlier, but he is getting the right amount of sleep. Heck, my son was sleeping 12 hours a day until he was about 8 or 9 (his bedtime used to be 7:30, and he'd wake at 7:30am).

That is by no means too much sleep for a 14 month old. If anything, it sounds like too little!

He's sleeping what he needs. Why would you want to deprive him of that? You could try cutting out the 6pm nap and just put him to bed earlier (10:30pm would NOT work in this house), but otherwise.... let him be.

It's the total amount of sleep that you need to keep in mind. It seems as if your son is getting adequite sleep; is the issue the timing of his naps and bedtime routine? As Jennifer mentioned, kids go through growth spurts and slow-downs that effect their sleeping and eating patterns. If your son is sleeping more, he may be growing! Personally, if he's sleeping well through the night and has no other issues, I woldn't worry about it. As always, though, if you still have concerns you can always talk to your doctor/pediatrician about this. Good luck!

My son is 17 months he sleeps from 8pm-9am, then naps from 1-3pm. So 15 hours total. I think 14-15 hours of sleep every 24 hours is normal at this age. Yours probably takes 2 naps a day because he does go to bed so late, but if it works don't change it. I wouldn't cut out the naps though.
