My two year old just recently started not wanting to take his afternoon nap. He used to be an amazing sleeper. He is clearly tired and cranky. We have tried to take him outside and let him play his heart out in the snow so he's tuckered and will sleep but it seems like it just wakes him up. We've tried giving him a big meal so that would knock him out but nothing seems to be working! Help!when he's in his room he opens the door and wonders his way down stairs I bring him back upstairs and he balling by this time and he just sits in his room balling and balling. I don't want to go the he'll cry himself to sleep route. After three hours of this he finally falls asleep.

We just switched nap time to quiet time, my daughter goes into her room for an hour each day she can look at books, or watch a dvd and when the hour is up she gets to come out 95% of the time she is asleep before the hour. But now she is sleeping on her terms not mine.

You could always tell him he needs to stay in his room from this time to this time, that way it's not crying himself to sleep for three hours but playing quietly ( crying I suppose) for 2 hours (or however long he's supposed to nap).

My son used to do this to, and it was a struggle. I used to lie down with him so it could become a big argument. Although I had him sleep on the couch so I would tell him if he didn't go to sleep I was going to put him upstairs in his room (which he didn't want, not really sure why haha). He's already IN his room though so that won't work... Maybe you could lie down with him and get up once he's asleep?

I would really just keep him in his room either until he falls asleep or for a designated amount of time.

I just notice that when he doesn't sleep he doesn't listen and says no which is really weird for him.
