How can I help my 10 year old daughter with friend trouble?

My 10 year old daughter has two friends, one she has had since kindergarten, a boy and one for a few years, a girl. She has become very up set because from what I can tell they seem to be making her choose between them. She even said that she in not the one in control, the girl is. I am at a loss as to how to help her with this! She was so up set she said she was sick this morning so she wouldn't have to go to school. It took me most to the day to get this out of her. Any suggestions?????

She needs to stand up for herself and her friends and tell them confidently that she is not choosing and so and so the boy is my friend and so and so the girl is my friend and I am remaining friends with both.

Personally, I would encourage her to talk with her girl friend and tell her that it's not fair to "make" her choose. That friends don't make friends choose like that. Then I would leave it up to her. I'm sure your heart aches for her situation, but she's 10 and needs to learn to handle her social relationships. Hopefully if you guide her in the right direction she'll be able to resolve it herself.
