I feel like a terrible mother right now. i don't have enough time to spend with my son due to work commitments. I leave early in the morning and come back late and only get to spend a few hours with him in the evening. right now he is more connected to my helper than me. my job also requires me to travel and work late nights and he goes to his father every second weekend. please help me sort out my life.... i need to know that i am doing the right thing to bring up a well balanced child who is not short of love. and grows up to be confident and self assured.

hi Louise

Than you so much for your response. My boy is 10 months now. I just ned to make sure that i am not being a bad mother and that the demands of me from my work don't impact on his well being. It isn't going to be like this for ever, but i am worried about the impact it may have on him subliminally when he is older.

You have not said how old your child is? If he is under 5 then he will adapt to whatever situation you give him. Just make sure that the time you do have with him is quality time and not time that you are doing the ironing or something. As your child gets older and starts school he may then realise that most families are not like this and he may rebel. You deal with this by spending more time with him than ever. Make mum a fun person to be around and let him look forward to the time with you.

You are doing your best for your child and if they are settled then they feel loved and cherished. A well balanced child is one that has learnt patience, respect and is not afraid of speaking their mind. If you have pleanty of time with him/her they will be confident to speak to adults and will grow up level headed. Don't beat yourself up about being a hard working mum, you work to keep him in his home.
