I am feeling very guilty and sad in having to take a night shift job and never seeing my kids til the weekends. I am already crying over it because I feel like it is my job to be home with them. How can I get over this and find some ways to be with them with our crazy schedules?

This job is for second shift so while I am sleeping or awake I will be done gone before they get in from school. I have never worked this shift before but I have third for over 6 years. I used to do what you suggested when I worked third and I liked it alot better and had most weekends off too.

are your kids in school? if so, sleep while they are there, and then get up when they get home. help with homework, make them dinner, and spend some time with them. take another short nap before you have to go into work. that's what my sister in law does.
