You don't. Baby has a need to suckle and at the breast is the best place.

Have you mastered laying down to nurse. It is such a life saver, lay down, place baby on breast and take a nap.

It's hard to say how long it will take. Children learn quickly but habits die hard. I would say one week if you are completely consistent. Remember it will get harder before it gets better! :-)

Last night after pacifing for over an hour, I was exhuasted-this is a normal time frame that she will pacify at night, I took her off and she cried for the next 2 hours (up until midnight)..it is so hard to hear your children crying especially when I know what will soothe her. If I did this every night, on average does anyone know how long it will take her to fall asleep and not cry for 2 hours..and to get out of that habit...my husband had to take her and it took every thing I had to not just wisk her away from him to soothe her. I did actually tell him at one point to give her to me so she would fall asleep but he insisted that he try...bless his heart...he is a good man. He did finally get her to go to sleep and stay asleep. :)

It's hard to stop them. My son is a year and still does it to fall asleep and most of the night. But in the day time I made him stop by strictly nursing everytime he would pacify on my nipple I would take him off. He quickly learnt. :-)
