How do I change my son's attitude towards school?

My son has just started 1st grade and when it's time for bed and every morning he has school it's the same thing... "I hate going to school", "I want to stay home", etc. I try explaining to him that he needs to go to school because that is where he will learn what he needs in order to do what he wants when he gets older and he'll get to see all his friends and other explinations along those lines. When he gets off the bus and I ask him how his day was, he always has a smile and says he had a great day. I don't think he's getting bullied at all... we had a slight problem last year but, that was settled and he even told me last week that there were no bullies in his school this year... How can I inspire him to like school? He enjoys doing his reading and words at home... it just seems to be a problem when he has to go to bed and in the morning before getting on the bus... is he just being lazy (for lack of a better term)? Anyone have a similar situation? What can I do... I definately don't want this attitude to continue and deal w/ it for another 11 years... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try setting up play dates outside of school with classmates, so he looks foward to seeing them in class

Ask the teacher what is coming up and get him excited about whatever he will be learning ... for example, if they will be learning about Dinos, get books and games to play with and get him excited to learn about that ... mark field trips so he knows when they are coming up ... volunteer in his room if you have time that always makes kids like school more

My first grader does the exact same thing. Try a reward chart. She never wants to go to bed, she never wants to go to school, but when she comes home she's in a great mood. I have to bribe her every single night. Kind of sick of it, but hey a mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do.
