I guess i am lucky,my three year hardly never talks back.He knows when i say something then he has to listen and obey.If he asks a second time,i tell him i already said no or whatever the issue is about and thats that.No ifs and buts.Otherwise you should tell your child if he/she talks back there are going to be consequences, and then stick to those consequences.

Consistent consequences, and redirection to proper behaviour. As long as you stay consistent throughout the child's life, 17 is not that big a deal

I'd like to say get rid of your husband, but joking....
Best advice at 3 hold your ground.
Punish him....no he can't play, no ice cream and stick to it....
Make sure everyone sticks to it.
But wait till he's 17.....
Yuk
