You don't. Why would you need to?

At 8mo old, they have NO understanding of discipline or of what's right or wrong.

Baby proofing and distraction are the best options at this age.

Take away or place out of reach anything you don't want your child to touch or play with. If you can't remove it from reach, or it's a behavior you want them to stop, a simple *no* and then take them away from the area or distract them into playing with something else that they ARE allowed to play with.

Your baby was IN your stomach longer it's been OUT. Discipline is not even an option at age 8 mos. Like Denikka said, an infant has ZERO concept of right and wrong. Right now, your main job is to feed, cloth, love and nurture. Your baby is not trying to manipulate or break the rules. They are programmed to cry in order to get their needs met; it's how babies survive. Just give as much love and affection as you can now. They grow up fast enough.

What is the problem? Discipline is teaching, so that starts at birth.

Denikka is right that baby proofing and distraction are the best techniques at this age.... that IS discipline. ;)
