Every Doctor I have taking my child to says not worry to about her getting sick from foods/juices. I don't understand why its ok for my kid to get sick from foods. My child is three now and and we still have these problems. All we can do is make organic food and juice for her. If we give her something else we have to worry will she get diarrhea. If we go out or to a family/friends we have to ask is this can food and hope she doesn't break out in hives. I can't pin point a thing because the foods that make her sick have so many preservatives in them it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Does anyone know of a doctor who cares or specializes in allergies?

My son is 4 1/2 now but he has been getting ill after eating certain things for almost 2 yrs and we think we figured it out....on several occasions he would wake up in the night or first thing in the morning saying he was sick. It would start with 2 bouts of diarrhea then he would begin dry heaving and puking. This would go on for about 2 hours, he would fall alseep and wake up as if nothing happened. We finally (think) we figured it out last December the morning of his 4th Birthday party. He had been up during the night with this same sickness. We got to thinking about it and realized he had gone to Burger King the day before for a playdate and had apples with his kids meal. Then remembering when it happened the month before at my moms, he has McDonalds. It doesn't stop there he has had Chick fil A fruit before and been fine but he had that also closer to his birthday and it happened then too. So we are sure it is getting more sensitive. We read the labels and it has to be the preservative that is put on them to keep them "fresh". It's weird because he can drink juice, but looking back almost everytime he has eaten the apples he has gotten sick. He has not eaten them in 8 mo and not been sick once :) Funny that is actually the only times he has ever been sick. I understand about going places, we have to ask if the fruit is fresh , canned or packaged? and especially going to fast food it is disappointing that he can't have a healthier choice now, and he doesn't even like ff :( This is a late comment hope you have gotten some answers by now and maybe my story has helped :)

It might be preservatives, or it might be even certain foods. As others have said, get a referral to an allergist and see about testing for both allergies and sensitivities.

The other thing to do is to put her on a simple diet that does not upset her system at all. Then, every two weeks or so, introduce another food and see what happens.

As far as preservatives go, the simplest thing is to avoid all preserved foods. Period. Always take food with you that you know she can eat and simply explain that she has food sensitivities and so can't eat anything beyond a strict diet. That means no more eating out, but OTOH it also means you will save a lot of money.

I think I will called the insurance company because when I ask the doctors they all will not let me get her tested. I have even taken her to doctors in different states. :) I really didn't know they were called allergists. When my mom and sister go about their allergies their doctor takes blood and sends it to a lab. I don't have allergies so it's all new to me.

Yep. They're called allergists. No, I'm not being sarcastic. Ask your pediatrician for a referral or call your insurance company to find a list of covered allergists.
