How do I get my 19 month old to sleep in her crib again?

I have a 19 month old daughter and just recently had another baby at the beginning of October. My 19 month old slept just fine through the night by herself in her crib before the baby came. Now she is in bed with me every night. If she falls asleep in the car and I put her in her crib, she wakes up an hour later screaming. I have already tried putting her in a big girl bed and I am getting the same result. She wont fall asleep without me next to her and then she wakes up screaming and finds her way into my bedroom. I'm sure most of you can imagine my dilemma here. I need to know what to do to get her to sleep alone again. (I'm a very young single mom)

The only thing I can think of would be to put her in her bed awake and let her cry for 5 minutes.

If she's still crying, go in her room and lay her back down. Tell her it's time for bed and leave the room.

Add on another 5 minutes. So let her cry for 10 minutes and then if she's still crying. Go back in and do the same. Lay her down and tell her it's time for bed, then leave.

Then add another 5 minutes but top it off at 15 minutes. If she is still crying go in and repeat above.

If she still cries, I would wait another 15 minutes.

When I did this with my two youngest, we never got past 15 minutes the first time because they finally fell asleep.

If they woke up in the middle of the night, I would wait before going in to see if they fell back to sleep on their own. If they come in, take them right back and start the process over. I know it's a pain in the middle of the night but once it sticks, it's a wonderful thing!

If you aren't comfortable waiting that amount of time, shorten it and go in say 3 minutes at first, then add 3 minutes each time and cap it off at 15 minutes.

Oh and most importantly, give her a bedtime routine so she'll know when it's time for bed because she'll do her routine and go to bed.
