How do I get my 20 month old daughter to eat non pureed food?

She will only eat food that has been turned to a puree. I make my own baby food with vegies and meat and put it through the blender so she is getting enough nutrition and she will eat most fruits but getting her beyond that has been a nightmare. It's not even the taste that puts her off, it's the texture. Sometimes she touches it to her lip then starts spitting other times she just picks it up and doesn't like the feel of it. But she will eat crackers and some biscuits.
Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.

Does she eye your plate while you're eating? Maybe you could keep some slices of pear, some peas, or squares of sweet potato on your plate, and let her grab them off your plate in triumph! (you can teach good manners later, lol)

Or give her a fork and teach her to stab the food. When my 23-month-old son loses interest in what he's eating, we have two go-to methods to tempt him.

1) Let him stab it with a fork. Somehow that is really fun. (he understood how to use a fork a month before he learned the spoon. He's never stuck himself with it. We give him a dessert fork, because those baby forks are useless and frustrating.)

2) give him something to dip it in (honey, ketchup, yogurt, even milk)

Hmmm.......maybe she is just not quite ready. I would offer things like mashed potatoes, while they are mashed, they are not pureed....do the same thing with sweet potatoes. Yogurt? Cottage Cheese, regular Cheese...slow transition. While it is a pain in the butt to still have to puree everything, at least she is eating and healthy. She will do it eventually.

Thank you ladies for your advice. I tried mashed potatoes the other day and we had success with that! You're right Marina, it is a pain in the butt but I know she is getting some nutrition so I will keep going a bit longer. I have started leaving more lumps in it and she hasn't complained too much.
Elfrieda, we have let her use her own spoon and she thinks she's a grown up so this is working quite well too.
Thanks again!
