How do I get my 7 year old to stop having accidents?

My son just turned 7 about 2 weeks ago and he is STILL having accidents. He didn't potty train until he was 4 or 5 years old. I have 2 daughters that both were potty trained before they were 2 and I've never had any problems with them-ages 12 and 5. My son has wet and poopy accidents on a regular basis. The wet ones don't bother me so much, but I'm at my wits end with the poopy underwear! I also have a 15 month old, and I feel like I'm constantly dealing with poop! We've tried EVERYTHING-rewards, punishments, ignoring it, etc. I don't know if he's just too lazy to go, or it he's doing it to get attention, or what, but he just doesn't care! We haven't even found a form of punishment when he misbehaves because he doesn't care. Spanking doesn't work, time-outs don't work, taking away rewards don't work. Even his 5 year old sister will tell us he smells poopy! If I ask if he pooped in his underwear he'll say he doesn't know, or he doesn't think so, or sometimes he'll run in the bathroom and hide it. I kept hoping that if he went to school and smelled like poop, then he'd realize he needed to stop having the accidents, but it just doesn't phase him at all! My new thing I'm trying is making him take a bath or shower EVERY time he has a poopy accident, which he HATES. He had to take 2 showers today, and it is really draining me, but I'm hoping if he hates taking showers that much, then maybe he'll stop the accidents! I don't know if we need to see a counselor, because he also has anger issues, and he was born missing some fingers. We've always treated him like any other kid, and he hasn't been made fun of at school for the most part-nobody in his class-and when I ask him he says he doesn't know who the kids were. So maybe this is part of a bigger picture. Please help!

I took him to a dr. a few years ago for his wetting accidents, and they didn't find anything wrong. I've never taken him for his poopy accidents though. Maybe I should get him in to get it checked out just in case. Thanks for responding!

Have you had your son checked by a doctor? Perhaps it's a medical reason that he's still having such frequent accidents. I would see a doctor to rule out anything.
