How do I get my 8 month old to not stand in crib when its time to sleep?

My 8 month old daughter just figured out that she can stand in her crib. Her sleeping routine for naps and bedtime was so wonderful before this - she would go into her crib still awake and play until she was sleepy and just put herself to sleep. Now all she does is stand at the railing of her crib and cry. Last night she didn't fall asleep until more than 2 hours past her bed time. I don't know what to do!! Any suggestions?

Is she stuck? My son would stand and then cry because he didn't know how to get down again. It helped just to show him to plop down on his knees. It might just be a phase, too, where she can't help but practice her new skill instead of sleeping and then cry out of tiredness, but once she masters it she'll be a good sleeper again.

Put her in her bed sooner and give her toys (books, soft toys) until she falls asleep, then go in and take them out of her bed once shes asleep.
