Hello, my boyfriend and I have been dating for over a year now and I have a three year old little boy. This is not his son and he dosent have any kids. All though he treats my son like his is his. But I offten find us arguing because he goes aginst my disapline for my son. For instance if my son acts up or gets out of line. I put him in time out or take away his t.v. privilages. My boyfriend soothes him or tells him that everything is ok and goes against my word. We have sit down and talked about this plenty of times but he keeps doing it. What is something that I can do to get him to understand that he cant go aginst my disapline since Im the parent?

Kim- Thanks he is a great guy and they get along great! I really hope we come to an agreement as well.

Michelle- We have sit down and talked about it and tried to come up with several plans on things. Its just in my boyfriends eyes my son is never in the wrong since he is three. But with that I dissagree because I feel like if I let my son get away with too much and tell him that everything is ok he will run all over both of us when he is older.

Don't look at it as you are the parent that will cause a great deal of strain on your relationship, sit down and come up with a parenting plan with him so he feels like you are including him explain to him that he is giving your son mixed messages about what is ok behavior if he consoles him after you have punished him. Back each other up even if you don't agree with how things are being dealt with at the time, you can always discuss the issue away from your son. He needs to see a united front or he will start playing you one off the other.

Aw hey I know it might make you mad but look on the bright side of things, it's really awesome that he soothes him and is nice to him, that's a great quality to find. Hope things work out and you guys can come to an agreement!
