How do I get my child to stop playing with his pee bug?

My four year old son has found that his pee bug gets hard when he plays with it. He's now trying to get anything to touch it. I caught him trying to get the dog to lick it the other day and then again tonight I caught him trying to get his 2 year old sister to kiss it. I don't know how to handle this situation. He knows it's wrong and I've put him in time out but it obviously isn't helping.

Firstly, it is a penis, not a pee bug.
Secondly, it is not wrong to play with it. It is natural.

However, it is something he needs to understand is a private thing, and that he should be the only person to touch it. Don't focus on trying to tell him playing with it is wrong - you will lose that battle and it will only serve to create problems. Believe me, he won't stop playing with it. What you need to do is focus on it being a private thing that shouldn't involve anyone else, and encourage him to perhaps do this in his room on his own. Let him know that it is okay if he decides he wants to play with it, but there need to be boundaries.

i have a daughter, not a son, but she started very openly playing with herself at about 18mnths. i told her its fine if she wants to that, but that thats something to do alone in your room. also she tried touching me a few times and we talked about mamas crotch was mamas and only for mama, just like her crotch belonged to her and nobody else was allowed touch it ever, apart from mama while changing her nappy. it took a few talks, but now she is fully aware that private parts are private and belong to the person they are attatched to. and papa has a penis! i know people use pet names, but pee-bug is a new one! though i choose to say crotch instead of vagina and vulva...each to their own.

He probably just doesn't quite understand that it is a private thing. After all, we don't know these things unless we are taught. Try to focus on that :) You may have better success if you let him know it is ok to play with it, but not for anyone else.

Tell him its his private part, and that he can play with it when he is alone in his room. You must tell him exactly that NO BODY but himself may touch it. I had the problem that my son was taking his penis out when he was outside and it has worked telling him nicely to put it back because its private.

What the hell is a pee bug? If you're talking about his penis, just keep talking to him about it until he understands that nobody is allowed to touch it but him and that should only be done in private.

I can only echo what the others have said.

And "pee bug" is an AWFUL name. It's a penis. Or occasionally it may be called a "manhood" I suppose. Don't use pet names, they're inappropriate!

My 4yr old son started holding on to his as early as his 9mth old and hasn't stopped till date. I'm getting scared because his penis retains an erect position anytime he fixes his hand in there and as a result of this he bedwets everyday, I'm not comfortable with the situation at all because his penis appears to be longer for his age, has a curved shape and is always erect. He even loses concentration at school cos of the same bad habit

I put him in time out the second time I caught him trying to get his little sister to kiss it. I explained to him that it was because it was wrong to try and get Sissy to play with it. I haven't ever caught just him messing with it. I'm just really upset that he is trying to get her involved.

Do you put him in time out for playing with his penis or because of what happened with the dog and sister?
Because it would be very wrong to put him in time out for just playing with his penis.Dont make him feel ashamed of playing with it.Its absolutly normal. And dont stop him from playing with his penis, just tell him where he may play with it.
