My daughter will be a year old this month. So we are going to be taking her off soy formula. We give her soy instead of milk based because the milk based constipates her. I need to know when I do give her regular milk do I give her soy or just plain milk? Is this a hard transformation?

My daughter had the same problem. (now 7 years old) Just gradually try the whole milk- (use sippy cup if she is already using it) but still keep your soy based formula on hand. If whole milk causes her problems, then switch to soy milk (which is expensive $4.00 1/2 gal but you get 3 flavors-Vanilla is the best) My daughter stayed on soy milk for one year then she was ready for the milk we use now today.

my son grew out of the lactose intolerance... we progressed ours into cow's milk... 2 days 3/4 formula and 1/4 milk.... 2-3 days 1/2 and 1/2.... and 2-3 days of 1/4 formula and 3/4 milk... and after that should bee 100% milk... good luck!!! most babies dont like the taste of cows milk off the batt due to the fact that formula is SWEET!!! My pedi recomended this method to me....

Is there a safe yogurt you can buy that won't upset a lactose intolerant tummy?

my daughter is now 19 and still cannot drink regular milk because of lactose intolerance. She does great on soy milk. I weaned her off soy formula to soy milk at 12 months. mix it like holly said. Some children outgrow the intolerance and some dont. I would actually discuss it with your doctor on wheather or not to use soy or regular milk at first. Regular milk can cause great discomfort for lactose intolerant people. When I tried regular milk on my daughter at 18 months she got so constipated that we had to take her to the ER. she was so backed up it put her health in jeopardy. You can get coupons for soy based products online just type soy products and most of the sites have printable coupons. Bryers make a lactose free ice cream

I breastfed my first daughter for 11 months and put her straight onto cows milk. She wasn't too fussed with it. At a year old, as long as they are getting their calcium through other foods like yoghurt etc, don't be too bothered if she isn't drinking heaps of milk (this is what the doctor told us). I breastfed my second for 5 months and put her straight onto formula full time becuase I had to go back to work. In the end, when changing them over do it gradually and they will get used to it. As your daughter is turning one, she will be onto eating your food now anyway, so if she isn't drinking lots of milk, just give her other calcium based foods and other liquids instead. Try however every now and then with the milk because their tastes change regularly and what she might not like one week she will the next.
