How do I get my preschooler to sleep through the night?

Help! My three-year old daughter has started getting up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. She is not scared or anything, but ridiculously alert at 1 am! Is this normal? How can I help her sleep through the night?

She drinks cocoa about 8 pm and is in bed and asleep by 9. She doesn't wake up needing to pee.

We both wake-up tired in the mornings, so I need to find a solution to this soon.

cocoa? cocoa has caffeine... why would you do that to her? warm milk would be a better option, or lavendar chamomile tea would be good... make sure to keep all the lights off, if she is scared, get a very dim night light. play mozart or night time lullabies for her on a CD and put it on repeat for all night continuous playing... tell her not to get out of her bed when she wakes up, and that she needs to TRY to go back to bed... my 8 & 9 yo sleep from 8pm - 6am. kids NEED 9-10hrs of sleep per night.
