I agree with the others so far--14 months is a little too young to be in a toddler or regular bed safely. Toddlers are "active" sleepers that turn and roll over a lot. Cribs provide more safety than just bed side rails by completely enclosing the mattress. The crib also prevents unsupervised toddlers from climbing out of bed at anytime of the day or night and wandering off! I suggest waiting until your son is at least 18 months old before making the switch. Good luck!

i've just recently put my son in a toddler bed and he will be 2 in january, it wasn't by choice he broke his cot so had no choice, i'd of prefered him to stay in his cot for a while longer as he wasn't climbing out or anything, and for the first 2 weeks, he went down in the bed if he was asleep, or in a travel cot if he was awake because he'd refuse point blank to even get in the bed, if he woke during the night he wanted to get into the travel cot, then he suddenly decided he loved his bed last friday and now he gone to bed awake woken up in the night and put himself back to bed after a drink etc. so if he's really not liking the bed either go back to the cot or kepp trying
Are you talking about a toddler bed? I think 14 months may be a bit early for that step. My now 3 year-old switched right before her 2nd birthday and my 21 month old is still wanting her crib (I give her the option of crib or toddler bed for naps and night time). Each child is different, but I still think 14 months may be a bit early to be worrying about that step just yet...
