So my 3 year old is in this stage of coming up and hitting me or his dad. I have put him in timeout, I've yelled...which these are not healthy ways.
When I ask him to stop nicely the first time; Our son just keeps going.

And its not a bad thing as long as you can get things taken care of once you know what is going on and know what needs to be done to take care of it.

Time out is not unhealthy. There are a couple of reasons to use time out. 1)To give yourself a break from the child and to get him/her to calm down as well as yourself. 2)To get the point across to the child that the behavior is not acceptable.

The child is three and will do a lot of things. Time out is good for some and not for others. You have to tell them why they get the time out, let them take the time out, if they try to get out of time out put them back and tell them time starts over, keep this up for a short time(Kids will forget why if you do it too long), tell them when they quit crying and so on they will get out of time out. After the time out tell them again why they had it and that its not nice and hurts. Kids this age understand the word hurt very well or boo-boo, owie or other words referred to hurting.

If this does not get better you should maybe talk to the doctor.

I was told the same thing by my sister in-law.
I do believe it's just that stage and if not, I am going to get my son help before it gets awful (like I got). My father and step mother would tell me I was Bipolar and they never helped me. My father is a DOCTOR and he could've helped me.
Instead I go for years with my mind making crazy to finally find out at 22 I am bipolar.

And at ages younger than five and six they do not like to test kids for a lot of things. So I hope that it is a stage and nothing else.

I recently found out I am Bipolar and that each generation the disorder gets worse. With the things my DS does it makes me wonder.
Hitting is a stage that all my younger siblings went through, I just hope he does not have Bipolar Disorder.
Same goes with my 9 month son.
