Our toddler is almost 3 in a few days. We tried getting him to sleep in his room earlier last year. September maybe. N he would sleep but wake up to 3 times a night. We tried to push through, but it got really ridiculous. So he went back to sleeping in his mom's bed. What can we do to get him to sleep through the night in his room? When do I know he is ready to go back to his room?

When you put him back to bed there can't be any "reward" to his behavior. So no talking, no snuggles, just put him back to bed and walk out. If, after the 50th trip back to bed you cave in and let him move to your bed, you have just taught him to continue the behavior until you surrender.

You just have to be consistent with putting him back in his bed. If you give in and let him sleep you you, even once, then that shows him that he just has to keep pushing to get his way. Who's the parent... him or you?

It is a process to get a child used to being in their room. All you can do is to keep putting him back in his bed in a gentle and calm manner until he gets the idea that is where he needs to sleep. Does he have a favorite toy he likes to sleep with or have around him all the time? Put that in his bed with him. Tell him that is his new bed and his toy's new bed. Buy him special sheets, blankets or pillows for his bed...make a big deal out of how big a boy he is. it takes time. A few nights is not going to get him to sleep in his own bed sooner.
