How do I handle a picky eater who is 3 and won't even eat at the dinner table?

I feel like I am doing something wrong because he will only eat maybe 5 specific foods. He won't budge and try what we put in front of him. Also he won't sit at the dinner table with I allow him to eat at his table in his playroom. Am I going about this all wrong?

You need to tell him what the rules are. He has learnt that if he kicks up enough fuss he will get what he wants.

If he doesn't sit at the dinner table with the rest of you don't give him any food. He will soon learn that you mean it if you stick to it. Kids won't starve themselves so when he realizes that he won't get his own way he will join you. Don't make it into a fight though, ignore him and carry on with a normal conversation so he see that he is missing out.

All 3 of my children know that I cook 1 meal and we all sit down together to eat. Sometimes my older ones will say they don't like something but they know they won't get anything else. They will usually eat it because they are hungry. My kids are 11, 8.5 and 2.5.
