How do I lay my 12 week old baby girl down AWAKE for naps?

Hello moms! For a while I was doing good for her naps by having quiet time in her room, swaddling her, calming her down again (because she cries almost every time I swaddle her...but she's so active that I don't think she'll sleep with her arms free yet) and then laying her down drowsy/barely asleep. Now it's evolved and if I try to lay her down with her eyes still open but drowsy, she cries as soon as I lay her down and I end up having to pick her back up and rock her for a few more minutes and then she's out and I can lay her down and leave. I just don't know how I'm supposed to put her down for a nap awake when she immediately starts crying once I swaddle her even if she's totally calm before I swaddle her. I feel like it's starting to become a problem because she wakes up after 45 minutes more times than not for her naps and cannot go back to sleep on her own. I feel if I can get her to fall asleep in the crib and not my arms then she would be better at self-soothing...or is it still too early for that? All advice is greatly appreciated!

I don't have any advice, but the only times my son fell asleep for a nap without nursing or being driven around were when he was sick. ;)

He also never napped longer than 45 minutes straight until he was down to one nap a day... and he'd usually wake once in the middle of his nap to nurse back to sleep again.

At 3 months... none of my kids were putting themselves to sleep. The only one to have any sleep issues at all has been my youngest and he's been totally fine for over 2 years now (he's 4.5).
