I am currently living with my in -laws due to financial difficulties. My husband's nieces and nephews come over from time, and it never fails that that they either destroy or take at least one toy. I've tried just about every solution i can think of, from confronting the parents to locking up important toys, but to no avail. The parents get defensive or just ignore the problem, and these children are out of control! They have actually moved pieces of furniture so they climb them and reach the lock so they could get to them. I've asked my husband to assist me in finding a solution, but his answer is, "We'll buy another one." We don't have money for that, obviously. I am getting VERY frustrated. Someone please help!

Thank you for your response. I have tried your suggestion and , get this - my in laws gang up on me and say that they are not my children and to leave them alone. Not only that, but my mother in law plays the " this is my house" card, and then threatens to kick me out. I try to keep the children away from my kids toys, but there's just too many children to watch at the same time! When my in laws come over they let their children run wild. But again, I appreciate your response. I just have to do what I can to get out of this house.

Its hard to, but you have to get out of your family "good books" and with a firm voice you have to tell those kids to stay away from your child's toys. Doing this will also add the sense of security (from you) in your child and it will boost his confidence, and he himself will fight for his rights next time.
