I still breastfeed my son and he is now 15 months, I have been trying to stop since he was about 10 months but due to his milk and soy allergies i continued to nurse him, He now only nurses to go to sleep sometimes for his naps and always for bed time. He gets up about 5 times per night daily and i really need help because he is emotionally and physically attached to breastfeeding and i really need sleep! He does not use bottles nor sippy cups, he drinks from straws or regular cups and is a really light sleeper unless i nurse him. I dont want to take him off "cold turkey", i need to gradually take him off but i dont know how. help!

Prepare for a some sleepless nights. Best advice I have is be consistent with when he can have it. Cut the night time nursings down to three to start and be firm about not letting him nurse. (Trust me when I say I know it's easier said than done. My son is 18 months and while he sleeps through the night occasionally he still wakes up for at least one nursing but usually more. I'm weak. I give in as I like my sleep too and I get more if I let him nurse.) I find that if I don't give in it does get easier OVER time, but we laps back to multiple night feedings if I feel he's really restless because of a bad day or he's not feeling good. Once you've got it down to a a couple night feedings cut out another one, until you cut the last one out and just keep cutting them from there.

Best of luck and know that it will be tough in the begining but he AND you will surivive! ;o)
