I have a three year old and he is having such a hard time going to the bathroom. He keeps crying and telling me it hurts. His doctor told me to give him a suppository but I dont feel right doing that when giving him one hurts him so much more.

Miralax - it is a powder laxative that has no taste so putting it in any drink works. It worked wonders for my daughter who has had issues from birth. It is a little expensive but one container goes a long way and you can usually find coupons in the sunday paper.

Let him drink a lot water daily... and yogurt does wonders.
Maybe you should be careful with his diet.

The suppository will work awesome, and can get the process moving. Definately do it if you need to. I know, it sucks to do, but I have only used it in urgeant cases. My son suffers from constipation regularly. What works for us is 3 dried prunes daily, lots of water, reducing cracker type snacks, and now we are using Activia. He is 8 today, and has had an issue since he was 5 months old. Diet is everything. Lots of fruits and vegetables also. Plenty of fiber to make him go, and not hold it.

If you are going to use activia, you may want to check with your pediatrician first. They may recommend half a yogurt daily to start. My son is on a full yogurt daily cause he is a lot older and bigger...plus the prunes. It seriously helps. I don't use prune juice, he loves the orange essence prunes.
