How do I stop my son from picking his nose so much it bleeds!

He picks his nose a lot in general but then when he is in bed he seems to really dig in, and his nose ends up bleeding.. Because he does it at night in his room I cant catch him in the act or remind him to use his tissues as I would during the day. He has just turned 6 so he should be old enough to understand. I know it is not the end of the world, but it is pretty disgusting, not to mention annoying to deal with (sheets etc).

If it's bleeding, maybe the inside of his nose is too dry. You could try giving him more water and fish oil supplement to keep him from dry skin. Check with your doctor if you feel like giving him additional supplements such as fish oil concerns you. For the digging, I would reward him with golden stars, stickers or any special favors that are meaningful to him for every day he does not do it...I used that when I was trying to keep my kids from biting their nails. I also used to put a sock in their hands for 5 minutes every time I see them biting their nails or sucking their thumbs. They didn't like it, but it is a mild penalty for getting caught in the act.

this may not work but i recently had issues getting my sons fingers out of his mouth. What worked believe it or not was i told him if he put shis fingers in his mouth i would bite them off. I know it sounds harsh but I couldn't think of anything else. He'd never stuck his fingers in his mouth until my daughter was 6 months old(she's a thumbsucker) and then i couldn't get them out. I was so sick of everything being slobbery and him having cold slimy hands when we needed to hold hands. It's worked great it took two das but he no longer sticks his fingers in his mouth. The first day I did take his fingers, stick them in my mouth and gently bite down to show him i was serious. it didn't hurt him but he got the message!

YOUCH! Maybe cut his nails short so he cannot dig so much??? I mean don't quick him....but make it difficult? LOL, he may see it as a challenge though and REALLY go for it!
