How do I talk to my 8 year old, about periods?

My daughter has a ten year old friend who has been taking a sex ed. class at school. She has told me daughter about periods. That "blood comes out of you".

Not okay, now my daughter is scared, although she will not voice it to me. She is introverted and gets embarrassed easily.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how to gently inform her what periods are? In the most simple, yet informative way possible.

Thanks!

There is an excellent book from American Girl called 'The Care and Keeping of You'. I recommend that you buy it and read it together with your daughter.

Just keep it all calm and as normal as possible because it IS normal. :)
