How do I wean my 1 year old breastfed baby?

Hi all

I need to start weaning my 13 month old daughter off breastmilk and am really unsure as to how to approach this. She completely refuses to drink formula and cow's milk (spits it out). She has no problem drinking tea/juice/water from a sippy cup or bottle. She is very dependent on me for feeds in the day and at night (she still wakes up about 3 or 4 times to feed). She seems to be very attached to my breast which is a real problem. Any suggestions?

Hmmm....I would first start by not feeding her in the middle of the night. She does not need those feeds and is waking out of habit. Try to help her find other ways to soothe herself. Then I would work on the daytime weaning. Offer breast when she wakes up and right before bed, but during the rest of the day only offer milk in the sippy. At first you want to only do milk no other liquids. You can mix breastmilk with the cow's milk, so the taste is more similar to her and then gradually cut back on the amount of breastmilk that is mixed in. At first she may not drink much at all, but when she realizes that this is all she is getting and she is thirsty she will drink it. Then cut out either the morning feed or the bedtime feed. Then take out the last feed, so then she is all on the sippy.
