How do make a 4 year old girl not afraid of halloween decor?

She is so terrified of even walking down the halloween aisles at walmart! She begins crying if she gets too close. I already tried punching the masks, putting it on and taking it off, flipping it inside out, making funny little jokes for her to laugh at and she still will not go near anything scary. I do not want her crying when we go trick or treating. I want her to be a happy laughing girl that day. Any ideas?

I would have to agree with Dove. Maybe just lay low this year, because if she's really freaked by it and you push it on her, she may have a lasting fear of this sort of thing.

My daughter was afraid of Halloween stuff the year she was 2. We just went to a couple of places where she knew the people that lived there and they did not have extensive decorations, aside from pumpkins. But last year (when she was 3) I took her in advance to the Halloween store and we played with all the "scary" stuff together and she got over it quickly. But I think she was just ready, and it sounds like doing the same thing didn't work for your daughter yet. So perhaps just give her time. She may even change her feelings by Halloween, kids are pretty odd sometimes the way they change so quickly. This year my daughter (now 4) is totally excited for Halloween and loves all the scary stuff.

My only other suggestion is looking for stuff that is also sort of funny. One of the things we picked up last year was a witch doll on a broomstick that you tie around a post so that it looks like she mistakenly flew into it. Perhaps adding humor could lessen the fear.

Time. If she's that freaked out you might want to consider not taking her out this year.
