how do new moms feel about breastfeeding support in the hospital

I am a Lactation IBCLC - I just wanted to get an idea how moms feel about support for breastfeeding in the hospital - are they getting help - what info would they feel would best help them as a new mom when an IBCLC comes to visit.

I nursed three children (including twins). I gave birth in 2 different hospitals. The second hospital was terrible. I felt that my decision to nurse my twins was not supported. The pediatrician was horrible.

Anyway, I think it's important for moms to know how little babies really need, and that nursing often is good. That it's normal for babies to be hungry all the time and it's important to nurse on cue, the problems that can happen with giving bottles. I could go on all day lol

my only experience with breastfeeding was almost ruined by the nurses in the hospital. If I had not lucked out and got a lactation consultant for my home visit my daughter would have starved. I am not lying. I could not breastfeed successfully at the hospital and the nurses refused to give me formula when I knew my baby was hungry and it wasn't working. They told me my breasts were fine and she had latch issues which involved a short tongue. The true problem was I had flat nipples and there was nothing wrong with her. If I had not lied to leave the hospital I don't know how long they would have starved her and it wasn't until the next day after I got home that she got to eat properly because the lactation consultant made her a bottle of formula and told me what nipple shield to get after she left. The holding techniques the nurses at the hospital showed me were absolutely ridiculous and needed a third arm to completely while choking my daughter on my entire areola.

I would never had had this problem if there were lactation consultants in the labour and delivery ward.
