Hello everyone

Our daughter had Greyson at 17...he is now 3 and Katy and greysons dad have split up and she and greyson have moved in with us. We watch him everyday while Katy works

We've been having problems getting him to mind us and do what we ask. He thinks that he can do whatever he wants. If you tell him NO, you better be ready for a show down, cause he's going to pitch a fit, cry and scream till you give in .... I've seen him go for hours doing this....hes' very head strong....we've tried timeout, rewarding, taking things away, and even spats on the legs. Nothing works.

I'm not as young as I use to be, so my nerves are pretty much shot . If anyone has any ideas on how we can change this behavior please let me know.

Ok, it's going to get on your nerves, but if he wants to throw a fit at "NO", then let him throw it. Tell him when he's finished, he can join you in whatever you are doing, and then walk away.

DO NOT GIVE IN.

In addition to that, ditto everything Evelyn said!

Good luck, Gramma! You're doing a stellar job.

Did Katy ever try to discipline the child? And as you said the timeouts, rewards, taking things away, and spats on legs do not work because this child has been allowed to run the roost before he moved in with you. So he seems to think that everyone will accomadate him in the same way he is used to. You need to sit Katy down and have a long talk with her about how he acts and find out why he is this way. THen you need to work with her on parenting skills to get him to learn to mind. And you know, letting him throw fits for a few days until he realizes no means no....might bite but would it not be worth it in the long run?
