How do you cope when your child's vocabulary is bigger than they are?

My 6.5-year-old has been using large words most high schoolers use since he was four. His temperament, however, fits best with kids younger than him. He is hyper and bouncy and very impulsive. Most days he will go from talking and acting like an adult to talking and acting like a two year old, without loosing a beat. He is very smart(when he wants to be) and incredibly creative. He can spin such a tale that you will be both awed and hopelessly confused.

I am truly wondering if there are others out there who have a child like this and how do you manage to keep things from getting out of hand, especially when you have to be out in public.

We keep a dictionary handy and I like to write them down. Someday, I am going to show him when he is older, lol.

My older son is just gregarious. His personality is huge. At five, his vocabulary is on par with someone much older--but socially, he is awkward and fits in best with kids just slightly older than him. Kindergarten is going to be interesting, I think.

I mean, out of all the issues you could possibly have with a kid, I think having a too big of a vocabulary would be my pick, lol!
