How do you deal with being "the worst mom ever"?

I wont let him go DJ a party he was asked to DJ. He is very good, and has been asked by seniors to DJ their senior party where there will be drinking. My son is a freshman. He is mature and has a lot of senior friends because he is in advances classes. I had to tell him no because of the drinking. He is of course mad at me and it feels awful. I know I did the right thing, and I know being disliked is par for the course of being a good parent but how do I deal with it? I'm strong and I know he will understand some day when he is a parent but for now it sure feels yucky. Any tips for coping with being the most hated mom on the planet (at least for this week)

You ARE NOT the worst mom. Remind him that not only is he underage, and could be charged by just BEING there, but the seniors are also underage, and the activity is not legal.

Then remind him that you'd not allow him to do anything that isn't legal, not just this activity.

You'll be fine, and so will he. Maybe see if the two of you can do something together that night, or something?

Me personally? I would say shrug it off, and remind him about drinking underage and what can happen. It of course feels like shit, but parenting isn't always about the good times, it is about doing what is best for our children.
